The A-pealing Praise Handbell Choir was established at Penbrook UCC in 1993 and has been going strong ever since. Rehearsals are held at 7:00 pm Sunday evenings from September through April, and the handbells perform one Sunday a month, playing on a full five octaves of handbells. Ruth Dunnewold, the dedicated, disciplined and enthusiastic Director of Handbell Choirs, is an expert handbell ringer and a member of the Hershey Handbell Ensemble.
A-pealing Too is a training/beginner handbell choir that meets at 6:15 pm on Sunday evenings for about 40 minutes. It is open to anyone ages 8 or older who would like to learn to ring handbells. The range is currently from 8 to 62, so all are welcome. No need to be able to read music; we will teach you! A-pealing Too performs once a month, generally the same Sunday that A-pealing Praise performs. Contact Ruth Dunnewold if you are interested.
The Chancel Choir meets on Thursday evenings at 7:15pm to practice anthems for the 10:30 am Sunday morning worship service and for special events as required.
The Chancel Choir director selects music from a variety of time periods and musical styles, ensuring an eclectic mix for the congregation’s enjoyment and musical growth for the choir members. Members of the group have lots of fun! If you would like to join the choir, please speak to director Brian Johnson or any member of the choir.
The Men’s Choir rehearses on Sunday mornings at 9:15am during the church school hour in the sanctuary. This group performs both for services at PUCC and for special events outside the church. When singing a cappella, the group sounds like a barbershop quartet/quintet/sextet.
The Women’s Choir debuted May 1, 2016 as a result of one Chancel Choir rehersal that was attended by only the women members. The group was such a success that they sang again the next month on Father’s Day. The Women’s Choir rehearses some Thursday evenings immediately following the Chancel Choir rehearsal.
